ReplyDeleteLesson Plan- Subject Verb Agreement
Concept: The idea of subject verb agreement is the subject and the verb must agree with each other. If the subject is only one which is called singular then the verb must be singular.
Purpose: The purpose of subject verb agreement is to know the number of subject(s) and the verb that agrees with the subject. It is also to know the relationship between the subject and the verb.
Incorrect Usage: When the subject verb agreement is used incorrectly, the message will be confusing. It will not flow smoothly in the sentence.
Ex: I were to go to the park. I was to go to the park.
In the incorrect form, the subject is I and the verb is were. The subject is singular while the verb is plural. In the correct form the subject is I and the verb is was. Since the subject is singular, the verb needs to be in singular as well. Some common errors are either using the wrong verb with the right subject or the other way around (As shown in the example above.).
Errors from our Essay:
Incorrect: “the two novels that applied with the quote is…”
Correct: “the two novels that applied with the quote are…”
Incorrect: “the animals believed that all man was evil…”
Correct: “the animals believed that all men were evil…”
In the two examples from our essay above, we used the subject incorrectly with the verb by using the wrong form of the verb. We fixed the mistake by the subject and the verb agreeing with each other. We fixed the mistakes according to the rule that is mentioned above.
