ReplyDelete1. Conjuctions are words that connect two words or groups of words together. The number one rule in using conjunctions is to never start a sentence with a conjunction.
EXample: Mark and I are going to the park. The "and" connects "Mark" and "I are going to the park."
2. The conjunctions are an important factor in writing clearly because it acts like a connector. It basically holds the parts of the sentence together. Conjunctions are helpful in showing relantionships between causes and affects. (because, for, since, but, and).
3. When conjunctions are used incorrectly the sentence is not clear. When the wrong conjunction is used, then the sentence wouldn't have the same meaning.
4. Some of the most common errors in conjunctions are using "but" and "and" to start a sentence.
Example: "But I didn't do my homework".
"And I went to the movies."
The conjunctions "but" and "and" is used incorrectly in this sentence.
Sometimes conjunctions are included in the sentence when they are supposed to.
"I was late to class, I didn't do my homework".
The "and" is missing in the sentence to show the cause and effect.
5. Examples of conjunctions used incorrectly:
- "But as people become influenced by society.."
- "But once the humans were gone.."
- "But the evils of society influence.."
CORRECTIONS:
- "As people become influenced by society..."
We took out "but" in the sentence.
- "Once the humans are gone.."
We took out "but" in the sentence.
- "However, the evils of society.."
We took out "but" in the sentence and substituted it with "however".

ReplyDelete1. Conjunctions are words used to connect individual words or group of words together in a sentence.
2. The purpose of conjunction is to make your sentences combine together. There wouldn't be a fragment with the combination of the sentence. Conjunctions allow people to combine two ideas using words like and, but, for, or and yet. A person’s writing will be more clear because there will be no run-ons and fragments.
3. When it’s used incorrectly the group of words you are trying to connect will become an incomplete thought or fragment. This is so because some sentences are subordinate clauses which are sentences that can’t stand by itself.
4. Most people use coordinating conjunctions (and, but, for, nor, or, yet and etc.) at the beginning of a sentence. This is a common error. The only time you can use a conjunction at the beginning of a sentence is when you are using a correlative conjunction (either or, neither nor, both and, whether or and etc) which consists of two words to connect words that perform equal functions.
Examples:
Wrong: The family starved due to hunger and their house was sold.
Correct: Their family starved because of hunger and their house was sold.
Wrong: But overtime, he decided to take control of the farm by himself and empowered Snowball by ordering the dogs to chase him away.
Correct: Eventually, he decided to take control of the farm by himself and empowered Snowball by ordering the dogs to chase him away.
Wrong: But as time progress, Napoleon became more ruthless and ruled as a totalitarian government.
Correct: As time progress, Napoleon became more ruthless and ruled as a totalitarian government.
