Revising for Conciseness page 328

1. Explain your topic/concept in your own words
2. Explain its purpose in writing clearly
3. Describe what happens in writing when it is used incorrectly
4. Describe common errors
5. Give examples of errors from your essay
6. Show how you fixed each error
7. Be clear and concise

  1. 1. Revising for conciseness makes your writing coherent. Concise writing is short and sweet.
    2. The purpose for writing concisely is to have the reader understand your writing by expressing much in a few words.
    3. When writing is not concise, it causes confusion for your reader.
    4. Common Errors:
    Repeating words
    Using unnecessary words
    Making writing to wordy, not using simple, direct expressions
    5. Examples:
    WORDY:
    a. Ira started off as a good girl with good morals because she didn’t commit any wrong actions. This made her innocent.
    b. This relates to the part of the quote which reads “We each begin in innocence…”

    CONCISE:
    a. Ira was an innocent girl with good morals. She didn’t commit any wrong actions.
    b. This relates to the part of the quote “We each begin in innocence…”

    Example A: To make the sentence concise, use direct expressions.
    Example B: To make the sentence concise eliminate unnecessary words such as: which reads.
